“You’re Not a Young Man” – Dustin Poirier Warns Michael Chandler About Waiting for Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler’s money fight at UFC 303 against Conor McGregor didn’t materialize due to the latter’s withdrawal. Chandler seems still waiting for the McGregor fight, and Dustin Poirier doesn’t think it is a good idea. Poirier revealed why it was so during his appearance at the MMA Hour.

“The payoff of beating Conor McGregor, financially and for your career, is worth the wait. But if you never get it, you’re wasting a lot of years, and you’re not a young man. These years are very important,” said Poirier, who has beaten McGregor and Chandler.

‘The Diamond’ admitted Chandler was in a predicament. If ‘Iron’ moved on and fought somebody else and won, ‘The Notorious’ might move on. Conversely, if he went on and lost his next fight, the UFC might not want to give him a shot at McGregor.

Would Poirier Sit Out Two Years for a McGregor Fight?

Dustin Poirier knows a thing or two about the fight game. The former interim lightweight champion stated on MMA Hour that fighters get old quickly. Therefore, sitting out two years, like Chandler, who is 38, doesn’t seem like a good idea.

“I’d have to be in the position to know. It’s tough to say. After fighting him [Conor McGregor] the second time in Abu Dhabi and considering the way my contract was structured, I probably would have waited a year,” Poirier said of what he would’ve done if in Chandler’s shoes.

As for Poirier’s MMA career, he revealed he only has a couple more fights left, particularly as he recently lost the lightweight title fight to Islam Makhachev. The two-time undisputed title challenger revealed he has no intention of going on a streak to fight for the undisputed title again.
