UFC 304: Paddy Pimblett Reveals 5-Fight Clear-Cut Plan for Capturing Lightweight Gold

Paddy Pimblett Reveals Plan for Capturing Lightweight Gold

Paddy Pimblett

The UFC’s beauty lies in the promotion of several fighters who have not won the undisputed title but are big stars. One of them is Liverpool’s own Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett. With his flair and persona, the former Cage Warriors champion has resonated well with fight fans, though he has not shown a championship-level performance.

Pimblett intends to change that. He has a fight plan to become the lightweight champion, beginning with UFC 304. Speaking to Erich Richter of New York Post Sports, Pimblett revealed his plans to become the champion of the UFC’s stacked division.

“A fight like Bobby Green. Then, a fight—I fight Moicano. Moicano’s ranked 10 at a minute, but then he’s fighting Benoit, isn’t he? So, we could end up could win or lose and could end up going up or going down. But I’d love like Moicano, and then Dariush would be perfect. Let’s, he like rank seven, rank eight. And then, yeah, and then someone in the top five, know what I mean? And then obviously go for the belt if possible,” Pimblett said.

The 29-year-old started his UFC career with three straight finishes, winning the Performance of the Night bonuses. However, Pimblett’s next two fights went the total distance against Jared Gordon and Tony Ferguson. Moreover, many felt the judges robbed Gordon of a victory against Pimblett.

In his upcoming fight against Bobby Green, Pimblett is an underdog. The 29-year-old has never been an underdog in the UFC. The last time the Liverpudlian was an underdog was when he lost the Cage Warriors lightweight title fight to Soren Bak.

Pimblett Names MMA GOATs

Though MMA is relatively new, several athletes have attained GOAT status among fight fans. Most of today’s elite fighters began training in MMA, inspired by the sport’s pioneers. In the interview with New York Post Sport, Pimblett revealed his pick for the four best fighters in MMA. The 29-year-old picked Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson, Georges St-Pierre, and Anderson Silva as his four best.

As for Pimblett, he certainly has the chance to be one of the best in the UK. Only Michael Bisping, Leon Edwards, and Tom Aspinall from the UK have become UFC champions. If Pimblett becomes a champion, he will certainly be one of the best fighters from the UK and a surefire Hall of Famer. However, the road ahead is complex, and the chances are meager.
