Comparison in sports is surely one of the favorite things fans love to do. From LeBron James to Michael Jordan and Cristiano Ronaldo to Lionel Messi, fans compare their favorite athletes to their contemporaries. Similarly, on Instagram, when Gordon Ryan saw a bizarre comparison claiming Alex Pereira’s three-year career is greater than Jon Jones’ decade-long career, he immediately debunked it with a laugh.

On Instagram, Gordon Ryan reshared a picture stating that while Pereira has been with the company since 2021, he has already become a two-division champion in just three years. Meanwhile, it took Jon Jones, who has been fighting for a decade and a half, 15 years to achieve the same. While it’s a crazy stat showing how quickly Pereira dominated the UFC octagon, belittling Jones’ career. So, Ryan took it upon himself to debunk the comparison in his Instagram story.

He stated, “Shut up with these stupid stats, lol. The only reason why Jon Jones (@jonnybones) did win a second title is because he didn’t move up earlier.” Pereira became a two-division champ in just 9 UFC fights, while Jones, who didn’t move up earlier, achieved the same after 15 years. Notably, Bones immediately became champ when he moved to the new division.

While statistics may suggest that Jon Jones is less dominant, the reality is quite different. No one in his fighting career has been able to defeat the current Heavyweight champion, and his only loss came via disqualification, a decision even Dana White himself disagreed with. Although Pereira has undoubtedly been a dominant force, such statistics prove nothing but absurdity, as Ryan stated. And the only way to determine who is better at fighting inside the cage is through the fight.

Dustin Poirier Calls for Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira Heavyweight Showdown

Recently, Poirier discussed Pereira’s heavyweight potential on The MMA Hour podcast with Ariel Helwani. Talking about it, he predicted it to be a blockbuster bout against Jon Jones. Poirier highlighted their knockout abilities and suggested now is the ideal time for the fight, emphasizing its fans’ favorite bout.

Indeed, Dana White thrives on delivering those ‘holy sh*t’ moments to fans, and a fight between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira promises exactly that. Pereira’s aggressive style makes him an interesting opponent. Whether Jones will accept a bout with him remains to be seen, given his long-standing desire to face Stipe Miocic.
