Behind great music hits, Killah B is the producer and composer of “Texas Hold ‘Em” , the Beyoncé song that opened the “Cowboy Carter” era.  The track, however, already existed before the singer even became aware of it. Therefore, the producer revealed behind the scenes until the song received the artist’s voices.

In an interview with BET ,  Brian “Killah B” Bates told the details about “Texas Hold ‘Em” , which made him, alongside Rapahel Saadiq , the first black songwriters and producers to reach the top of the Billboard country chart .

“When I got there [Artist Partner Group], I worked on an idea with an artist called Bülow, who was signed to Republic Records. Then the second idea we came up with was ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’. He leaned over and said, ‘I’m working on Beyoncé’s new album. If you have any country music ideas, let me know ,” he recalled.

After that, the producer sent the song to someone at Parkwood , Beyoncé ‘s company , who liked the song and decided to take the song to the artist. The singer then decided to record the track. “A few weeks later, I got a call to come to Parkwood and they made us sign confidentiality agreements ,” she recalled.

“We came up with two or three more ideas that they loved. Then I didn’t hear anything else about the song for the next two and a half years [laughs],” she said.

Killah B also said that, due to the silence, he did not take the idea seriously. “I would have done more country ideas and kept sending them. But when you’re in this business, people always make records and never release them , ” he explained.

The producer then revealed that one of the songwriters for “Texas Hold ‘Em” warned him that Beyoncé would like to return to work on the song after a certain period of time. “She said, ‘Beyoncé wants to come back and make some changes.’ But I wasn’t really sure if it would be released , ” she concluded.
