HOT!!! Floyd Mayweather linked with REMATCH against boxer who headbutted him in controversial fight as date and venue reported | HO

Floyd Mayweather is reportedly set to run it back with Victor Ortiz in his next exhibition bout.

The pair squared off in a highly-controversial fight for Ortiz’s WBC welterweight title in 2011.

Mayweather was on top of the contest from the off and after struggling to land anything of note Ortiz turned to dirty tactics.

In round four, as he trapped Mayweather up against the ropes, Ortiz leapt off his feet and headbutted ‘TBE’ in the face.

The blatant foul led to an immediate point deduction from referee Joe Cortez.

Ortiz instantly became apologetic and went over to embrace Mayweather as Cortez signalled for the action to commence.

Sensing his moment, Mayweather quickly landed a vicious left hook-straight right combination to send the defenceless champion tumbling to the canvas where he was counted out.

Now, 13 years after their controversial encounter, which saw Mayweather argue with veteran broadcaster Larry Merchant, reports have emerged linking the fierce rivals to a rematch.

According to ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez, Mayweather vs Ortiz 2 is due to take place on August 24 at Mexico City’s Plaza de toros Mexico, which is the world’s largest bullring, boasting a capacity of 41,262.

The site is usually used for bullfighting, although several big boxing bouts have been hosted there in the past including Julio Cesar Chavez’s third and final bout with Frankie Randall in 2004.

Ortiz (33-7-3) hasn’t fought since recording a points win over Todd Manuel in May 2022.

After falling to defeat against Mayweather, he lost four out of his last nine fights and fell out of title contention.

Although Ortiz has never officially hung up his gloves it is thought that his time in the paid ranks is over.

However, the allure of a money-spinning exhibition with Mayweather appears to have tempted him back into the ring.

Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2017 after beating Conor McGregor to cap off a perfect 50-0 career – but he has continued to compete in non-scoring bouts against YouTubers, reality television stars and everything in between

The list of famous faces he has boxed during his second career includes YouTube star Logan Paul, ex-Geordie Shore cast member Aaron Chalmers and KSI’s brother Deji Olatunji.
