Angel Reese’s hard foul on Caitlin Clark in the recent Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever showdown has the WNBA world buzzing. Obviously, many have been criticizing Reese for it.

Veteran sports commentator Colin Cowherd, however, has a rather interesting take on the matter–which many might find unpopular.

For those who missed it, Reese’s foul came in the third quarter of their Sunday game (June 16) when she accidentally hit Clark on the head while trying to block her shot. The foul was eventually upgraded to a Flagrant 1, to the dismay of the Sky rookie of course.

According to Cowherd, however, Reese’s hard foul is actually good for the game. After all, he believes some physicality will be beneficial for the league.

“This is a win for women’s basketball. These flagrant fouls are a win. I defended Draymond Green forever so I’m going to be outraged by this? It’s a flagrant foul. She [Clark] got up and played, okay?” Cowherd exclaimed.

The FOX Sports analyst also mentioned that players who commit a flagrant foul shouldn’t be vilified, especially since such physicality is part of the game. That’s why the pro scene has a term for it.

At the end of the day, both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are aware of the level of competition they are in. They play a high-contact sport, and in such games, getting hurt should be expected.

Clark, for her part, didn’t make a big deal out of Reese’s foul and attributed it to simple competition and emotion. With that being said, fans who are mad about it should probably do the same as the Fever rookie.
