WNBA fans are left feeling worried after internet darling and Los Angeles Sparks rookie center had to be carried off the court in a game against the Connecticut Sun.
The 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year suffered a non-contact injury not even halfway in the first quarter of the game.
The incident occurred at 6:23 when she was dribbling from the three-point line and attacking the defense of Sun center Brionna Jones.
She slipped and had to be lifted by her teammates. She tried to walk on her own but couldn’t, so team staff had to carry the 6’4 center off the court.
Brink never returned to the game, and her team lost 70-79.
While fans await confirmation of Cameron Brink’s injury, a sports doctor fears the worst for the young center.
Cameron Brink injury might be an ACL
Dr. Evan Jeffries, a well-known physical therapist specializing in sports injuries, thought Brink’s left knee gave out.
Thus, he made a quick assessment that she just suffered an ACL tear.
Jeffries has commented on injuries suffered by many NBA stars in recent months, including Kristaps Porzingis and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and he was right about his assessment.
Brink faces a long layoff if it gets confirmed that it is indeed an ACL tear.
Depending on the severity, such injuries usually require a six- to nine-month recovery period. Undergoing surgery can shorten the time one needs to get back to playing again.
