WNBA fans disapproved of Diana Taurasi’s reaction to facing Caitlin Clark for the first time. The 19-year gap between the Indiana Fever rookie and the Phoenix Mercury veteran will be a duel between two different eras of basketball.

That said, it seems like only one player is excited for the matchup. Hours prior to the game, Caitlin Clark had a detailed response about facing Taurasi, who many considered the women’s basketball GOAT, for the first time in her young career.

“That’s somebody I grew up idolizing and looking up to and wanting to be like one day,” Clark said. “Obviously, she’s one of the greatest players our game has ever seen, greatest scorer our game has ever seen, so for me, I’m excited. It’s fun. It’s almost like a dream come true. You get to live out your dream while playing against the best, or one of the best there ever has been.

Here was Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark’s response when asked about facing Diana Taurasi for the first time on Sunday.

These remarks contrast a lot with what Taurasi had to say, using only four words to describe her feelings ahead of the game.

“Yeah, it’ll be fun,” Taurasi simply responded three days ago.

As stated before, the different responses from the two players raised some eyebrows among fans, with a group calling out Taurasi for her words (or lack of them).

“Pretty sad a 40 year old is acting like a teenager and a 22 year old is acting like a 40 year old @DianaTaurasi,” another fan wrote.

“Jealous maybe?” somebody wondered.

Others praised Clark for her class while attacking Taurasi for the same reason.

 

“CC has so much more class than these women of the W. DT especially!” one fan wrote.

“Clear difference in character, not in age though,” another fan said.

“Class vs no class. Clark 🐐,” somebody else wrote.

Diana Taurasi previously warned Caitlin Clark about the WNBA

A couple of months before sharing this no-response response with reporters, Diana Taurasi sent a message to Caitlin Clark, warning her about the type of opponents she would face in the W.

“Look, SVP. Reality is coming,” Taurasi said. “There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life, we all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side.”

“You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds,” she added. “But you’re going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”

At the time, these comments rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and Taurasi has had the same effect now. Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi play each other tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET at Footprint Center.
