Chad Stahelski can’t wait to start filming Highlander with Henry Cavill. During a recent interview with Collider, director Stahelski shared a few updates about the film. He shared that the filming will begin in January in Scotland.

Stahelski added that he would be leaving for Scotland soon to do the final location scout. He shared with Collider:

We start shooting in January in Scotland, that’s why I go right after I leave. I go to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scout.

Chad Stahelski also shared in the interview that the cast of the film had already started training in stunts and sword fighting. When the update was shared on X by @DiscussingFilm, one of the fans to share excitement about the upcoming film was Elon Musk. He shared:

Other fans, too, joined Musk in sharing their thoughts about the new Cavill film. One fan shared that The Tudors actor took these kinds of roles very seriously. Another fan shared that while they normally hated reboots, this particular one excited them.

One fan wrote that Cavill usually respected the fans of the IP that he takes on, which makes his established IP projects fantastic. Another fan shared that the involvement of Stahelski in the film gave them hope. One fan mentioned that there’s no doubt that the swordwork would be exceptional. Some of the fan reactions read:

The Highlander franchise was a big phenomenon back in the day. There have been four Highlander films that opened in theaters, and one was made for TV. The franchise also spawned two live-action TV series, Highlander: The Series and Highlander: The Raven.

Other projects from the IP included an animated television series, an anime film, a flash animation series, original novels, and comic books.

Henry Cavill shared at CinemaCon in April that he was a fan of the original Highlander movies. The Man of Steel actor also added that their version of Highlander will go deep into the lore of these characters. He also hyped up his swordwork for the film. He shared at CinemaCon (via Collider):

I’m a lover of the original movies for better or for worse, but, my goodness, me. What we are doing with this is… we are going deep into the meat of these characters and their trials and tribulations. If you thought you saw me do swordwork before, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

During his interview with Collider, Stahelski shared his enthusiasm for the project. He was excited about combining his signature action style with sword fighting.

He also shared that he loved working with the concept of immortality. He added that he would be looking forward to mixing the genres of period and sci-fi films in his Highlander film. He shared:

It’s another opportunity to do a property that I love. I love what it’s about, I love working with immortality and love stories through time. I think it’s a good way to take a great period piece, and sci-fi, and mix them together.

The film will be produced under the banner of Lionsgate Films. A budget of $100 million is allocated to the film, according to Deadline. The original film is now available for streaming on Fubo.
