After a decade in limbo, there’s finally some major news on the long-awaited Highlander reboot starring hunky star Henry Cavill . The film will go into production in Scotland in January , according to director Chad Stahelski .

“We’re starting shooting in January in Scotland, where I’ll be heading shortly. I’ll be going to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scouting,” Stahelski told Collider .

“It’s another opportunity to do a project I love. I love working with immortality and love stories across time. I think it’s a good way to take history and science fiction and blend them together .”

The director spoke about the scale of the project, anticipating the level of commitment and work the cast will have to put in to master sword fighting. Naturally, Stahelski hinted that the duels featured in the film will be something never seen before :

“Most of our concerns right now are not about casting. We have the machine up and running and _I think we have the right cast . We have the right people. We have the right coaches. We’ve found some of the best coaches I’ve ever met in my life over the last six months, who are helping us. But it’s about how to put it all together and make it work. It’s not The Princess Bride, it’s not Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, it’s not Master & Commander, it’s not Zorro. I want to give people something new, and that’s why I lie awake at night thinking about it.”_

The perfect protagonist

After years of riding, dueling, and bivouacking in The Witcher , Henry Cavill is the perfect lead for the Highlander reboot . It’s currently unknown whether the actor will reprise his role as Connor MacLeod, played by Christopher Lambert in the original, or if he’ll be given a new character.

The new film is expected, however, to stick to the original’s underlying premise: a race of immortals battle through time with the ultimate goal of emerging as the sole survivor and claiming the prize of mortality.

The original Highlander quickly became a cult classic, spawning a series of sequels and a fan-favorite television show.
