The departure of Henry Cavill as Superman from the DC Universe was a blow that fans have never recovered from nor they ever will. His iconic portrayal of the Man of Steel has etched a permanent place in the hearts of audiences worldwide. Despite the passage of time, the wounds remain raw, and the news of James Gunn’s decision to reboot the character with a new face has sparked a fresh wave of outrage and resentment among hard-core Superman fans.

Entertainment insider handle, MyTimeToShineHello, took to X to drop some latest updates from the upcoming Superman movie set in motion. The tweet landed a couple of images of David Corenswet, with a major bone of contention. The trunks, a controversial costume element, originated in the 1930s as a symbol of strength worn by bodybuilders and athletes. They were adopted by Superman, nodding to his early feats of strength, like lifting bridges and wrestling elephants.

Though the character evolved, trunks remained, worn by Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh. However, Henry Cavill’s Superman in Man of Steel ditched the trunks, which had proved the most appealing to the fans. However, the new master has brought back the trunks on Superman’s costume as a deliberate nod to the character’s classic roots, symbolizing truth and justice, aka the Big Blue Boy Scout.

And while James Gunn continues to build upon his newfound interests, fans continue to openly disapprove of the same.

Latest glimpse of David Corenswet’s superman receives scathing remarks

The tweet had fans flooding the comments section with negative remarks on one key change from Henry Cavill’s Superman detail to that of David Corenswet’s. While only a few have decided to let James Gunn have a chance, the majority of them are vividly enraged about the developments. “FML those trunks look HORRIBLE in that pic,” dished out an outraged fan. Hate the trunks,” commented one more user while another took to note how the fit had turned out to be worse than expected.

A couple of them, meanwhile, seemed to have made peace with the changes that appeared bewildering to most.

As the DCU embarks on a new chapter, the audience struggles to come to terms with the radical changes from head to toe. The first glimpse of Gunn’s Superman had already sent a heads-up among fans that they need to try harder to get accustomed to the changes. However, as they take a closer look each day, the resentment just continues to simmer under the surface.
