Rockets ‘Would Love’ to Trade for Kevin Durant, Says Insider – S

The Houston Rockets are looking to trade for a star this summer. Could that be Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant?

The Houston Rockets have the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and that’s currently the top notch in a heap of future assets the team could use to grab a star.

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo are reporting that the Rockets could trade that pick in hopes of acquiring a star like Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant.

“The Rockets are clearly in win-now mode and would love to add star power to their roster, with players such as Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, Mikal Bridges and Brandon Ingram as well as role players including Brook Lopez and Marcus Smart being some that other teams say the Rockets could have interest in targeting (with some names more far-fetched than others),” ESPN writes.

As easy as it sounds, it is absolutely complicated. The Rockets are just two days away from the draft and trades like this usually take time and careful collaboration.

The Rockets have the capital to make a big trade and enough young resources that they could keep to ensure that they would still be able to develop through that route, but any big trade for an aging star like Durant would be a risk.

The Suns pushed all their chips in to get Durant last season, and it only got them to the second round a year ago. They didn’t even win a playoff game this past season.

A lot of stars have to align in order to make a blockbuster trade worth it, and that’s why the Rockets may be hesitant to pull off a big deal. But a trade of that magnitude would have people taking Houston a little more seriously in the Western Conference.
