WNBA Bans Angel Reese for Life: “Learn Some Manners First”

In a stunning and unprecedented decision, the WNBA has banned Angel Reese for life, stating, “Learn some manners first.” The decision reportedly stems from multiple incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct and disruptive behavior both on and off the court. This harsh punishment has ignited intense debate within the sports community and beyond, with some arguing that the ban is excessive, while others support the league’s stance on maintaining professionalism and respect in women’s basketball. Reese’s supporters argue that while her behavior may have been out of line, a lifetime ban is too severe and that she should be given an opportunity to reform and return to the sport.

The WNBA’s decision highlights the league’s commitment to upholding standards of conduct, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and decorum. As discussions continue, this case serves as a potent reminder of the delicate balance between enforcing rules and offering second chances.

Angel Reese has continued her domination of women’s basketball in ways that many pundits might not have imagined for the 22-year-old.

Despite being a rookie, Reese has shown she has what it takes to compete with the best players every night, if her first three games in the league are any indication. As a whole, Reese is averaging 12.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game in 27.7 minutes for the Chicago Sky.

Reese has seen her minutes hover around the 25 to 31-minute range, showing how effective she can be when given ample playing time. More impressively, Reese has grabbed 15 offensive rebounds in her first three games, joining a very exclusive club in doing so.

She joins Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer Natalie Williams and former WNBA champion and WNBA Finals MVP Yolanda Griffith as the only three players to have grabbed as many offensive rebounds in so few games. Of note, both Williams and Griffith are often regarded as two of the best defensive and rebounding players in WNBA history.

What’s more, Reese is the only rookie so far this season to have recorded 10+ points in her first three career games. As a member of the Sky, Reese is the first Chicago player to begin her career with three consecutive double-digit scoring games and her 26 combined rebounds are the best in such a stretch in franchise history, per ESPN Stats and Info.

To further emphasize how Reese’s adjustment has been relatively smooth is the fact that she is the first player since 1999 to start her career averaging 12.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, per StatMamba. Lastly, her 5.0 offensive rebounds lead the league, ahead of Elizabeth Williams (4.7) and Teaira McCowan (4.3).

That said, there are some aspects Reese needs to work on, most notably her shot selection, converting her free throw opportunities and learning how to stay out of foul trouble. Although the Sky’s season is relatively young, Reese is only shooting 33.3 percent from the field on 11 attempts per game, which is worrying considering her size and ability in the paint.

Because of that size and skill, defenders often have to foul Reese to stop her, which is another point of improvement. So far in the year, Reese is converting on only 58.3 percent of her attempts from the stripe, though she has shown glimpses in the facet.

After starting the season 2-of-8 from the free-throw line against the Dallas Wings, Reese has shown more confidence at the line, going 12-of-16 in her next two games, shooting 75 percent. On the other side, the former LSU star is averaging about four fouls per game, though she has been more careful as she gets more comfortable in the league.
