Boxers getting banned for using prohibited substances is becoming all too common. Earlier in June 2024, the New York State Athletic Commission officials handed famous boxer Ryan Garcia a one-year suspension after he tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine. Now, the UK Anti-Doping officials have banned heavyweight boxer Robert Helenius for two years after he tested positive for clomifene in a UKAD test following his bout with Anthony Joshua.

The 40-year-old denied intentional doping, claiming the positive result was due to contaminated eggs and chicken. Moreover, he failed to prove that the test results were because of the contaminated eggs and chicken he consumed before the fight.

It is noteworthy that the UKAD provisionally suspended Helenius on September 18, 2023. Henceforth, his ban will last until September 18, 2025, even though the officials suspended him on July 19, 2024.

Is Ryan Garcia Considering Retirement from Boxing?

Although Garcia won his bout against Devin Haney via a majority decision, his subsequent failed drug test saw him receive a No Contest result in his boxing record. Since he is facing a year-long suspension, his future in the boxing ring remains uncertain. Moreover, his X post on June 20 hints at the same. Garcia wrote, “I MAY RETIRE IM DONE WITH THIS GAME”

With various issues piling up in Garcia’s life, the star boxer may look to find a new career goal. He has been embroiled in controversies, including a confrontation with Caleb Plant at the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin fight. Adding to the turmoil, Garcia failed to follow through on his commitment to attend rehab despite his earlier claims of seeking help to improve. Given the current state of affairs, it remains unclear whether Garcia will return to boxing.
