Ryan Garcia makes a plea to UFC after Boxing suspension: Dana I want my 50Gs
Rising boxing star Ryan Garcia has made a public appeal to UFC President Dana White, seeking an opportunity to showcase his skills in the world of mixed martial arts. This announcement comes after the 23-year-old lightweight boxer was recently suspended by the California State Athletic Commission following his victory over Isaac Cruz in December.
The suspension, which includes a $100,000 fine, has not deterred Garcia from exploring new horizons. In a video posted on his Instagram account, the young boxer expressed his desire to take on the challenge of competing in the UFC, despite having no prior experience in the sport.
âDana White, I know youâre watching this. I want to fight in the UFC,â Garcia said. âI want to show the world that I can do it. I want to show the world that I can be a champion in the UFC.â
Garciaâs plea to the UFC boss comes at a critical juncture in his career. The boxerâs suspension means he will be sidelined from the ring for the next six months, a significant setback for a rising star in the sport. However, the talented athlete sees this as an opportunity to diversify his skillset and prove his versatility as a combat sports competitor.
The decision to explore a move to the UFC is not unprecedented, as some of the best athletes in the world have successfully transitioned between boxing and MMA. Names like Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather, and others have demonstrated the ability to excel in both disciplines, showcasing the crossover potential between the two sports.
The strangest part of the whole deal is that UFC could likely make this happen because they do their own PED testing in addition to organizing matches outside the US. It is our understanding that an athletic comission wouldnât greenlight Garcia competing on US soil in neither boxing or mixed martial arts.
As the MMA community eagerly awaits Dana Whiteâs response, the boxing world will be closely watching to see if Ryan Garcia can successfully navigate this unexpected career path and emerge as a dominant force in a new arena of combat sports.
