“Stop Him in the Third” – Leon Edwards Confident Ahead of Belal Muhammad Rematch at UFC 304

Leon Edwards Confident Ahead of Belal Muhammad Rematch

Belal Muhammad and Leon Edwards

Leon Edwards fell to number 4 from 3 on the UFC pound-for-pound rankings after Alex Pereira’s recent victory put him in second. Edwards will likely return to the top three if he wins dominantly in his upcoming fight against Belal Muhammad.

Unlike the first time the pair fought, which ended in a No Contest, ‘Rocky’ seemed confident in bagging a finish in the rematch. In a recent interview, the 32-year-old previewed the UFC 304 main event matchup against ‘Remember the Name.’

Edwards Confident in Skill Advantage Over Muhammad

Kweku Afari chatted with Leon Edwards for talkSPORT MMA, where the welterweight champion spoke of various matters. In the interview, the Birmingham resident seemed extremely confident of his prospects in his upcoming fight against Muhammad.

“I feel like I stop him in the third, I truly believe that I am just skill-for-skill better than him; I got a feel for him in the first fight, so going into the second fight, I’m more confident. I know how he feels in the clinch, within his punches, and everything. I’m excited for it,” Edwards said.

The welterweight champion acknowledged that Muhammad had not lost for quite some time and had improved since their first fight. However, he didn’t think that the 36-year-old possessed danger in any department. After all, Muhammad has only 3 finishes in his 18-fight UFC career.

Moreover, Edwards revealed his plans past UFC 304. The 32-year-old expressed interest in fighting Islam Makhachev, the lightweight champion, and Dricus du Plessis, the middleweight champion. However, he revealed that the super fights would take some more time to materialize.

The Jamaican-born Brit is a sizeable betting favorite over his American counterpart. Born to Palestinian immigrants in Chicago, Muhammad has been a staunch defendant of the Palestinian cause. He has aspirations to represent it on the big stage with a victory.

However, the number 4 pound-for-pound fighter in the world is standing in the way. The Chicago native would have to dig deep for any chance of victory. Nevertheless, the matchup will excite the fans due to their stylistic differences.
