Why did the police raid Khabib Nurmagomedov’s training camp? What was the reason? How did his “longtime rival” react to this incident?
The gym owned by former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has reportedly been the subject of a police raid. This comes in the aftermath of a series of attacks that took place in Nurmagomedovâs homeland of Dagestan.
The attacks, which left at least 20 people dead, targeted religious sites and a police checkpoint in the region. Footage showed militants clad in black setting fire to religious buildings and opening fire with automatic weapons. One of the individuals believed to have been involved in the attacks was Gadzhimurad Kagirov, an accomplished freestyle wrestler turned undefeated MMA fighter who had previously trained at Nurmagomedovâs gym.
Nurmagomedov, however, was quick to distance himself from the incident, stating that Kagirov âis not our studentâ and that he had only trained at the gym for a few months in 2021.
Nevertheless, the aftermath of the attacks has seen footage emerge on social media that purportedly shows Russian authorities surrounding Nurmagomedovâs gym in preparation for a raid.
The raid on Nurmagomedovâs gym comes in the wake of a vitriolic attack launched by his long-time rival, former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor. McGregor took to social media to label Nurmagomedov a âterrorist,â making a reference to the infamous bus incident prior to their 2018 clash. The Irishman also made a series of outlandish allegations, claiming that members of Nurmagomedovâs team had âheld hostageâ PED testers and that there was video footage of the 35-year-old âsmashing upâ a âpremise full of peopleâ with a bat.
Nurmagomedov, for his part, has condemned the attacks as â inhumane,â expressing concern for his family and loved ones who live just minutes away from the scenes of the violence.
In a post on Instagram, the retired star offered his condolences to the victims and their families, urging everyone to âlook aroundâ and educate their children about the importance of peaceful coexistence.
