Mike Tyson REVEALS Why His Son Will NEVER Be A Boxer.. | HO
Mike Tyson, the retired heavyweight boxing champion, shares in a YouTube video titled “Mike Tyson REVEALS Why His Son Will NEVER Be A Boxer..,” his reasons for opposing his youngest son Miguel’s aspiration to become a boxer.
Tyson’s own tumultuous upbringing, which included his father abandoning him and his mother’s death at a young age, influenced his decision. In contrast, Miguel and Tyson’s other children have had loving parents and a privileged life.
Tyson believes that their backgrounds make them unsuited for the demanding and painful world of boxing. He fears the risks and consequences of a professional boxing career, citing health issues and personal sacrifices he made during his own career.
Despite his reservations, Tyson supports Miguel’s training but discourages him from pursuing a career in prize fighting, as he is determined to shield his children from the physical and emotional trauma he experienced during his boxing career.
Mike Tyson, renowned as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, shared on Joe Rogan’s podcast why he doesn’t want his son to follow in his footsteps and become a professional boxer. Despite Tyson’s tough exterior and legendary status, he has a very different perspective when it comes to his children’s careers. Tyson’s reasoning is deeply rooted in his own tumultuous upbringing and the harsh realities of the sport of boxing.
Tyson’s early life was anything but easy. Born into poverty, his father left when he was just two years old, and his mother passed away when he was sixteen. This left Tyson to fend for himself in a crime-ridden environment, where he frequently found himself in trouble with the law. By the age of thirteen, he had been arrested 38 times. Boxing became his way out of this dire situation, a means of survival rather than just a career choice. The extreme hardship and violence he endured shaped him into the fierce competitor the world came to know.
In stark contrast, Tyson’s children have had a life of relative luxury and stability. Tyson has six children from three different women, although he had seven before one tragically passed away at the age of four. His children have pursued various professional paths, markedly different from their father’s. For instance, his oldest son Amir has a degree in broadcasting and owns a clothing brand, while his younger son Miguel is a musician involved in charity work. Tyson is proud of their achievements and supports their endeavors. However, when Miguel expressed a desire to become a professional boxer, Tyson was adamantly opposed.
On the podcast, Tyson revealed that he does not believe his son has the necessary toughness to succeed in professional boxing. He explained that boxing is a sport that requires immense pain, dedication, and a certain level of desperation that his children, who have grown up in comfort, do not possess. Tyson stated, “You have to dominate everybody. You have to be the best that’s ever lived… Boxing is for people that have nothing.” He believes that his children’s privileged upbringing has not equipped them with the gritty determination needed to excel in the sport.
Joe Rogan, who also has experience in combat sports, shared Tyson’s perspective. He acknowledged the intense physical and mental demands of boxing, as well as the high risk of injury. The sport is notorious for its potential for serious long-term health issues, such as brain damage and chronic neurological conditions. Rogan agreed that the luxurious upbringing of Tyson’s children would not have instilled in them the necessary resilience and grit.
Tyson’s opposition to his son’s boxing ambitions is also influenced by his own regrets as a father. He admitted on another podcast that his successful boxing career came at the expense of quality time with his children, something he deeply regrets. Tyson wants to be present in his children’s lives and support them in a way that he feels boxing would not allow. He expressed a desire to protect them from the pain and violence he endured, stating, “You don’t have to fight an animal like me.”
Adding to this, Tyson’s success in boxing was partly due to the psychological conditioning he underwent as a young fighter. His legendary trainer, Cus D’Amato, used hypnotherapy to instill a ruthless, victory-at-all-costs mentality in the young Tyson. These sessions were designed to remove any doubt or remorse and to turn him into a relentless competitor. While this approach was effective in making Tyson a champion, it also contributed to the erratic and sometimes violent behavior that marred his early career.
Tyson’s own experiences with the darker side of boxing, including his infamous incidents such as biting Evander Holyfield’s ear, further solidify his stance against his son pursuing the sport. He recognizes that the same mindset that made him a great boxer also led him into trouble outside the ring. Tyson does not want his children to go through similar hardships and make the same mistakes.
Today, Tyson has found a sense of peace and redemption through religion and is focused on righting the wrongs of his past. He is content to see his children explore different, less violent paths. Although he occasionally trains with them and shares his boxing knowledge, he is firm in his decision that they will not pursue professional boxing careers. Tyson’s story is a testament to the brutal realities of the sport and the profound impact it can have on one’s life. He wants to ensure that his children have a better, safer, and more stable future.
