When Team USA announced its final roster decision for this summer’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Caitlin Clark’s name was not on the list.

Clark’s omission sparked controversy and discussion around the world of sports.

Many felt the WNBA’s No. 1 overall pick deserved a spot representing her country at this year’s games. Other agreed with the decision — stating Clark still has a lot left to prove as an up-and-coming superstar.

WNBA veteran and sixth-time Olympian Diana Taurasi was asked to address Clark’s absence on the roster earlier this month.

“Whenever you’re trying to cut down to 12 players from this amazing pool of players, there’s always going to be controversy… I think you see that with the all-star team, and the Olympic team really is the collection of the best players. But, at the end of the day, USA basketball always has a firm grasp of what they need as a team,” DT said.

“I think people kind of lose track of no matter what, you have to make sure that 12 players fit to form that best team, not necessarily the best players,” she continued. “Whatever the 12 are, I think USA Basketball has always done a great job of putting that collection of talent together.”
