“I love her” – A statement that could potentially divide the WNBA world into two when spoken about Caitlin Clark. Many people are all for the 2x National Player of the Year while the others are not. However, for the league itself, which is experiencing a surge in visibility, this is exactly what they want. Interestingly, even the former Sparks player Liz Cambage could not stay away from the Caitlin Clark effect. Consequently, she has set her resentment of the league aside and praised the Fever rookie.
Appreciating how Caitlin Clark has changed the scenery of the league, Cambage said on Lion’s Share News, “I’m real thankful for the amount of light and media these girls from college have brought to the league.” She even mentioned how the LA Sparks’ game with Indiana brought in 19,103 fans to Crypto.com Arena. A record-breaking attendance, higher than the Los Angeles Lakers. Talking about that, the 6-ft-9 hooper added, “I guess all you can do is be thankful for it.”
Hinting at the narrative about jealousy over Caitlin Clark, she added, “I’m grateful. You’re grateful. I think everyone else should be grateful. Y’all be begging for this attention, you finally got it, right?” The hooper had more to add to the rookie’s praises as she also confessed that while she would have been crying in the corner, Caitlin Clark is handling the physicality a lot better and “like she is meant for it.”
The 2018 WNBA Peak Performer is currently playing in China for the Sichuan Yuanda Basketball Club of the WCBA. As for the WNBA, she currently has not shown any interest in returning after her exit citing “toxic” environment as the reason. But she did have quite a few things to say about Caitlin Clark’s Olympics snub. However, seems like she is on the same page as everyone else on the Olympic committee.
Caitlin Clark gets praise but also no consolation for her Olympics snub
Liz Cambage may have praised the Fever rookie for her impact, just like Monica McNutt accepted that Caitlin Clark has moved the needle. However, she was also quick to say how she did not believe that her not being on Team USA was a snub. She mentioned, “I don’t see it as a snub. I think the women that have been working for that spot and have been a part of Team USA from the last world champs from the last training camp to now, I think, that team looks pretty good to me. “
After suggesting that in the coming three to four years, Caitlin Clark is going to be “the biggest name in the game.” She added, “The Olympic team is pretty stacked. Whose spot would you, who would you take out?” The 2018 WNBA all-time leading scorer assessed that the change from college to the professional league can be challenging. Hence, we should remember to let rookies find themselves and adjust in the highly competitive league.
Certainly, one of the biggest problems that Caitlin Clark raised with her rookie season in the earlier days was physicality. Something that she might have faced in the Olympics even more. However, the rookie is already finding her feet and making records with every game.
